Perched on a ridge above the hamlet of Essieu, the ruins of the Château de Beauretour stand on a site fortified since the Middle Ages. What remains today, a square keep, sections of the residential building and an enclosure wall, mostly dates from the late 15th century, when construction is credited to Jean de Rossillon. A fire in 1793, followed by looting and destruction, left the castle in the ruined state seen now.
