To make a day of it

Château de Fromentières stands in Chinon (Indre-et-Loire), in the Centre-Val de Loire region of France. The building is registered as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: 15th century). The building is privately owned and no visits are on record.

On the edge of Chinon, near the boundaries of Beaumont-en-Véron and Huismes, the Château de Fromentières stands on a quiet site at the foot of a hill between the Loire and Vienne valleys. Built under Charles VII for a royal squire, this 15th-century residence fell into long neglect before being rebuilt from its ruins starting in 2006. Visitors can see two perpendicular wings with mullioned windows, a timber-framed gable bearing stacked fireplaces, and a polygonal stair tower at the southwest corner, pierced with defensive loopholes.
