To make a day of it

Château de Ferrières stands in Pontcarré (Seine-et-Marne), in the Île-de-France region of France. The building is listed as a historic monument. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

Built in the mid nineteenth century for Baron James de Rothschild, the château de Ferrières stands in Pontcarré, in Seine-et-Marne, within a large landscaped park. British architect Joseph Paxton, known for London's Crystal Palace, gave it its neo-Renaissance style and a level of comfort unusual for its time. Long a Rothschild family residence, the estate is now privately owned and houses a hospitality school as well as event venues.

What to know

  • The château is a listed historic monument, but it is a private estate with no regular public opening.
  • Free visits are not offered; access is only possible during certain special events.
  • For any request about visiting, contact should be made with the town hall of Ferrières-en-Brie rather than the château itself.
  • A restaurant located in the park remains accessible independently of a château visit.
  • The estate also houses a hospitality school, which limits access to the interior spaces.
