To make a day of it

Château de Cuxous stands in Cassagnes (Pyrénées-Orientales), in the Occitanie region of France. The building is registered as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: 11th century, 13th century). The building is privately owned and no visits are on record.

In the hamlet of Cuxous, in the commune of Cassagnes, stands a fortified château whose north and west walls date back to the 11th century, built as a square around an inner courtyard. Designed for defence, the building originally had no openings facing outward, with all rooms lit from the courtyard side. Visitors can still make out the crenellations on all four fronts, two corner turrets and a pigeon tower, traces of successive alterations from the 13th to the 20th century.
