In Cesson-Sévigné, on the outskirts of Rennes, the Château de Cucé stands on a site occupied since the Middle Ages, though the building seen today results from an 18th-century reconstruction led by the architect Binet. The structure forms a series of pavilions under varied roof shapes, its façade marked by a wrought-iron balcony and a triangular pediment carved with a rosette. A chapel from the late 18th century, with a polygonal apse, replaced an older place of worship that once stood outside the park. Enclosed by a wall, the estate passed successively through several Breton noble families, including the Cucé, Montbourcher and Cahideuc.
