What the French Ministry of Culture records

Château connu comme maison forte dès le 12e siècle. Odon Borleng, gouverneur de Gacé, y entreposait le butin résultant du pillage des populations. Richard de l'Aigle s'en empara, et la maison forte devint château fort avec douves et tours de défense aux angles. A la fin du 15e siècle, Guillaume Erard, fait chevalier par François Ier, reconstruisit la demeure selon un plan en équerre, dans le style Renaissance, avec deux tours. De la construction du 16e siècle subsiste l'aile nord-est. A la fin du 16e siècle, le château Renaissance fut doublé vers l'ouest. Les deux autres tours à mâchicoulis furent sans doute construites à ce moment. Occupé pendant la Seconde guerre mondiale, une explosion endommagea la grande salle du rez-de-chaussée. Seul subsiste un décor peint du 17e siècle sur une poutre.
