To make a day of it

Château de Cirey stands in Cirey-sur-Blaise (Haute-Marne), in the Grand Est region of France. The building is listed as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: 17th century, 18th century, 19th century). Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

The château de Cirey, in Cirey-sur-Blaise in the Haute-Marne department, owes its reputation to Voltaire's stay there as a guest of Émilie du Châtelet, during which he had a wing added to the house in the 1730s. Visitors can see a complete domestic estate, from the main house rebuilt from 1642 onward to its farm buildings and park, including the small theatre the philosopher had installed for himself. The property, still lived in by its owners, is shown to visitors by them.
