To make a day of it

Château de Chaville stands in Chaville (Hauts-de-Seine), in the Île-de-France region of France. No visits are on record for this building.

The château de Chaville no longer exists: nothing remains on site of this former estate located between Paris and Versailles. Its history is chiefly remembered for the mid-17th century rebuilding carried out by Michel Le Tellier, Chancellor of France, who commissioned architect Charles Chamois and gardener André Le Nôtre to create a modest set of buildings surrounded by lavish gardens, which Le Tellier himself called his "délices". Louis XIV's son coveted the estate and acquired it in 1695. The only surviving traces today are period engravings, archival plans and a detailed post-mortem inventory, which allow us to picture what this vanished château once looked like.
