Bourmont castle, in Vallons-de-l'Erdre, combines the remains of a medieval defensive system with later buildings: outbuildings and an orangery from the early 18th century, and a neo-gothic manor house built in 1892 by architects Bibard and Lediberder. The estate has belonged to the Ghaisne de Bourmont family since the 17th century, and it was here that Marshal de Bourmont was born and died. Visitors can trace the successive layers of a property that has stayed in the same family for generations.
