To make a day of it

Château de Boulains stands in Échouboulains (Seine-et-Marne), in the Île-de-France region of France. No visits are on record for this building.

The château de Boulains stands in Échouboulains, about ten kilometres north of Montereau-Fault-Yonne, on an estate of more than 130 hectares. Built from 1867 onward in local stone and brick for Count Boussard de la Chapelle, it was enlarged at the end of the 19th century by the Halphen family, who added a wing and a windmill set along the formal French garden. Its history is less that of a house open for sightseeing than of a site with successive uses: a military hospital, a convalescent home for aviators, and later a boarding school for the daughters of aviators killed in service. Since the foundation once responsible for it was dissolved, the estate has returned to state management.
