What the French Ministry of Culture records

Le castrum est mentionné dès le 12e siècle dans un hommage de Simon III de Monfort à l'abbaye Saint-Germain-des-Prés. Seul château de la vallée de la Mauldre encore significatif, il représente un exemple original d'architecture militaire, qui a conservé une importance stratégique jusqu'au 15e siècle puis fut transformé en château d'agrément au 16e siècle. Son abandon définitif en tant que résidence date de la fin du 17e siècle.
