In Monestier-de-Clermont, in the Isère region, the château de Bardonenche stands on the site of an earlier building erected in 1590 by the Clermont-Tonnerre family, of which nothing remains today. The present house, rebuilt in the late 18th century after a fire, belongs to the Bardonenche family, whose name it bears. Its symmetrical south front is arranged around a central section topped with a carved pediment and flanked by two pavilions under scale-tiled roofs. The château remains privately owned and is generally seen only from outside, except during occasional openings.
