To make a day of it
Château d'Hautpoul stands in Hautpoul (Tarn), in the Occitanie region of France. No visits are on record for this building.
Hautpoul has two separate castles, set on a rocky outcrop at the edge of the Montagne Noire, facing the Saint-Sauveur church. The lower castle, now in ruins, can be visited since the town of Mazamet bought and restored its remains in 1993, reached by a modern footbridge. The upper castle, built later and showing Renaissance touches, remains privately owned and closed to visitors. Most people come for the setting itself, the turbulent history of the Albigensian Crusade and the Wars of Religion, and the view over the village.
