Ce château témoigne, depuis le Moyen-Age, d'une architecture évolutive. La forteresse médiévale est transformée en demeure de plaisance, puis, à la fin du 19ème siècle, elle est mise au goût du style néo-médiéval. Dans la seconde moitié du 20ème siècle, certains ajouts pittoresques sont supprimés par l'architecte Joseph Philippe.
