On Bouvreuil hill in Rouen stands the keep of a fortress built between 1204 and 1210 by Philip Augustus after his conquest of Normandy. Dismantled in 1591, only this tower remains, known as the Joan of Arc tower, where she was held prisoner before her 1431 trial.
