What the French Ministry of Culture records

La première occupation du site date de l'an 1000, avec un castrum circulaire. En 1211, le territoire appartient à l'évêque d'Uzès qui fait sans doute construire ce logis face au premier castrum. En 1226, l'ensemble fait partie du domaine royal. Cette première construction se compose d'un logis avec une salle d'un étage et une tour donjon de deux niveaux renfermant un pigeonnier au-dessus. Ces structures sont conçues de manière indépendantes. A la fin du 14e ou début 15e siècle, le logis est surélevé d'un niveau, crénelé et défendu par une bretèche située au-dessus de la porte du logis. La tour donjon, qui a conservé sa structure de la fin 12e début 13e siècle sur sa face nord, a été ouverte à l'est par une demi-croisée et une baie. Le crénelage, ajouté sans doute aux 14e-15e siècles, a disparu et le parapet a été modifié.
