Fort Freinet stands in La Garde-Freinet (Var), in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region of France. No visits are on record for this building.
Perched on a rocky spur of the Maures massif, roughly 450 metres above La Garde-Freinet, the ruins of Fort Freinet come into view after a walk through the forest. The site brings together the remains of a castle, a village and a defensive outpost, built in the 12th century directly into the rock. Traces of a chapel with its altar and the line of a former rampart can still be made out, in a setting that opens onto views of the Gulf of Saint-Tropez and the Var hinterland.
