The Turmhügel Tannenbuck is what remains of a vanished motte castle, hidden in the Feindschießen Wald southeast of Rust. All that survives is an earthen mound roughly two metres high and twenty metres across, once the base of a timber tower surrounded by a ditch and palisades, likely raised in the early high medieval period on the Elz floodplain. It appeals to visitors interested in field archaeology rather than a castle in the conventional sense.
