To make a day of it

Stadtschloss Herrieden stands in Herrieden (Landkreis Ansbach), in Bavaria, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

The Burg Herrieden stands at the northeastern edge of the old town, forming part of its fortified ring and town wall. First recorded in 1122, it served as the seat of the bailiffs of Eichstätt's collegiate chapter before passing to the counts of Oettingen and later to the prince-bishopric of Eichstätt. Rebuilt repeatedly after fires, an earthquake and destruction by Swedish troops, it still retains its gatehouse, substantial retaining walls and a partly buried arched bridge. The main building, once home to a princely brewery, preserves a vaulted cellar on pillars that still holds a large stone trough.
