To make a day of it
Schloss Traventhal stands in Traventhal (Kreis Segeberg), in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.
Near Bad Segeberg in Schleswig-Holstein, the river Trave runs through the valley where Traventhal House is located. What stands today was built in the late 19th century, taking the place of a rococo residence once used in summer by the dukes of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Plön, whose grounds had been regarded as the largest Baroque garden in the duchies. It was on this estate that Denmark and Sweden signed the Treaty of Traventhal in 1700, and the property subsequently became a Danish royal retreat before housing a provincial stud farm. Today the main building serves as a child and youth welfare institution, while visitors can still access the park and a small museum dedicated to its history.
