Schloss Styrum stands in the Styrum district of Mülheim an der Ruhr, on the right bank of the Ruhr river. The medieval core of the manor house, built of rubble stone, dates back to the 13th century, though the building's present appearance owes much to alterations carried out at the end of the 19th century for the industrialist August Thyssen. Visitors can see a two-storey main house, a hexagonal stair tower crowned with a weathervane dated 1890, a square defensive tower at the southwest corner, and a 17th-century gatehouse. The surrounding park and the former castle chapel, now used as a seminar room, are also part of the grounds.
