Schloss Ronneburg stands on a rocky spur overlooking the Thuringian town that bears its name, a site fortified since before the year 900. The surviving buildings combine a medieval core, centred on the knights' hall and remnants of the old keep, with a later wing shaped by 19th century historicism, including a courthouse with an ornate stucco façade and the tower that still marks the town's skyline. A Romanesque gateway, the only remaining access to the site, and an old chapel dedicated to Saint George complete the ensemble. The complex now serves municipal and cultural purposes, with the knights' hall used for civil weddings.
