To make a day of it
Schloss Rhoden stands in Diemelstadt (Landkreis Waldeck-Frankenberg), in Hesse, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.
Schloss Rhoden stands in Diemelstadt, in Hesse, on the site of a medieval stronghold of the Counts of Waldeck, rebuilt into an early Baroque residence in the mid seventeenth century. Between 1647 and 1654 the Dutch master builder Peter Jeanson carried out designs by the French architect Belle-Roche, raising the present structure on the foundations of the older castle. The interiors have changed with the building's many later uses, from officials' housing to a recovery home, a labour-service camp and eventually a retirement home, leaving little original decor, though traces of the medieval fabric remain. The adjoining park also holds the princely mausoleum of the Waldeck family, built at the end of the eighteenth century.
