To make a day of it

Schloss Philippsburg stands in Koblenz (Koblenz), in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. No visits are on record for this building.

The Schloss Philippsburg no longer stands: from 1632 to 1786 it served as the residence of the prince-electors and archbishops of Trier, built at the foot of Ehrenbreitstein Fortress on the banks of the Rhine. Once one of the largest Baroque palace complexes along the Rhine, it was so badly damaged in 1801 when French troops blew up the fortress above it that it had to be demolished. Only a handful of adjoining buildings survive today, the Pagerie, the Dikasterialgebäude, the Krummstall and the Marstall, giving a sense of the former residence's scale. Visitors therefore encounter the site's surroundings rather than the palace itself, on the heights above Koblenz.
