To make a day of it
Burg Helfenstein (Koblenz) stands in Koblenz (Koblenz), in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. No visits are on record for this building.
Burg Helfenstein once stood on a rocky spur in Koblenz, just south of Burg Ehrenbreitstein, separated from it by a deep ravine. Built around 1160 by the von Helfenstein family, it had largely fallen out of use by the 14th century and eventually decayed into ruin. Nothing of it can be seen today, as its site was built over by Fort Helfenstein, part of the Prussian Ehrenbreitstein fortress erected in the early 19th century.
What to know
- No visible remains of the original castle survive, as it was entirely built over by later Prussian fortifications.
- The site now corresponds to the location of Fort Helfenstein, part of the Ehrenbreitstein fortress complex.
- A visit only makes sense as part of a wider exploration of the Ehrenbreitstein fortress rather than for the castle itself.
- There are no separate opening hours, fees or access details for this specific site.
