To make a day of it

Schloss Neu-Richmond stands in Braunschweig (Braunschweig), in Lower Saxony, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

The Schloss Neu-Richmond no longer exists today. This neo-Gothic ensemble, built south of Braunschweig in the early 19th century to plans by Carl Theodor Ottmer for Duke Wilhelm of Brunswick, comprised a ducal villa, a pavilion known as the Kavalierhaus, and a walled park. Abandoned after 1848, it was demolished in stages between 1901 and 1906, and the site is now occupied by the Braunschweig-Kolleg. Only the ground of the former park, with no surviving structures or paths, still carries heritage protection.

What to know

  • No building survives, so there is no castle to tour in the usual sense.
  • The former park grounds, now occupied by the Braunschweig-Kolleg, retain no paths or visible structures.
  • There are no plans to rebuild or restore the site.
  • Heritage protection applies to the land of the former park, not to any standing remains.
