To make a day of it
Schloss Hohenlupfen stands in Stühlingen (Landkreis Waldshut), in Baden-Württemberg, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.
Schloss Hohenlupfen stands above the town of Stühlingen on a plateau said to have once carried a Roman watchtower. The counts of Lupfen built an earlier stronghold here, first recorded in 1093, which was damaged in 1499 during the Swabian War and only poorly restored afterwards. It was before these walls that, in June 1524, peasants presented their grievances to Count Sigismund, an episode regarded as the opening moment of the German Peasants' War. The building seen today results from the rebuilding carried out between 1619 and 1624 by Maximilian von Pappenheim, who had the older structure torn down around its tower.
