To make a day of it

Schloss Heringnohe stands in Vilseck (Landkreis Amberg-Sulzbach), in Bavaria, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

Schloss Heringnohe is a former ironworks manor built around 1530, situated away from the usual tourist routes at Vilseck, in the Landkreis Amberg-Sulzbach, Bavaria. The three-storey rendered building, topped with a half-hipped roof, still holds several yellow-glazed stoves from the classical period inside. A Catholic chapel dedicated to St Laurence is attached to its southeastern corner. The estate, historically tied to a water-powered hammer forge on the Wiesennohe stream, now houses an inn run by the owning family.

What to know

  • The Schloss is privately owned and houses an inn, so access to the residential parts is limited.
  • No visiting hours or admission fees are given, so it is best to check locally beforehand.
  • The site combines the manor, a former servants' house from the 18th or 19th century, and an adjoining chapel.
  • The building is listed as a Baudenkmal in Bavaria.
  • The location lies close to the Grafenwöhr military training area, which may affect road access.
