Schloss Dorheim stands on the banks of the Wetter river in Friedberg, on the site of a former medieval moated castle. The Wais von Fauerbach family is believed to have built the original stronghold in the 13th century, before alterations around 1500 and the construction of a late Baroque manor house in 1775 gradually reshaped the site. Parts of the outer defensive wall and two corner towers from around 1500 still survive from the earlier fortification. The property today belongs to a branch of the Counts of Solms-Laubach, who live there.
