Schloss Burgdorf stands in the town of Burgdorf in Lower Saxony, on the site of a medieval stronghold that was destroyed and rebuilt several times over the centuries through war and fire. The present building, a half-timbered two-wing structure erected between 1642 and 1650 in the early Baroque style, originally served the dukes of Brunswick-Lüneburg as a hunting lodge and meeting place for their councils. Today it houses the town's administrative offices and hosts concerts, and low remains of the former defensive rampart can still be seen to the west and southwest of the site.
