To make a day of it

Ringwall von Burg stands in Celle (Landkreis Celle), in Lower Saxony, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Recorded dating: 9th century. No visits are on record for this building.

The Ringwall von Burg is an early medieval circular earthwork near Altencelle, a short distance from Celle in Lower Saxony. Built from turf on a sand dune amid the marshy lowlands of the River Fuhse, it likely served as a refuge for the surrounding population in times of danger. Visitors can still see an embankment standing some three metres high, enclosing an interior of roughly 0.2 hectares, with the original single entrance still visible as a gap in the rampart. The site later gained wider recognition through Hermann Löns's novel Der Wehrwolf, which drew on it for several scenes.
