To make a day of it
Schloss Arnsberg stands in Arnsberg (Hochsauerlandkreis), in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.
Perched on a hill above Arnsberg in North Rhine-Westphalia, this ruined castle has roots going back to around 1100, when it belonged to the counts of Werl-Arnsberg. Following the county's transfer to the Electorate of Cologne in 1368, the fortress became an electoral residence, later remodeled in Renaissance style under Salentin of Isenburg and then transformed into a baroque palace from 1739 by the architect Johann Conrad Schlaun. Fighting during the Seven Years' War brought about its ruin, leaving only sections of walls and towers as traces of these successive building phases. Visitors today can wander freely among the remains, tracing the story of a once-powerful regional seat.
