To make a day of it
Schloss Albeck (Langenau) stands in Langenau (Alb-Donau-Kreis), in Baden-Württemberg, Germany. No visits are on record for this building.
Schloss Albeck stands at the historic centre of the village of Albeck, a district of Langenau, perched above the Flöz valley north of Ulm. A first stronghold was raised here at the end of the 11th century by Duke Frederick I of Swabia to secure the border with Welf-held Ulm territory, before being destroyed in the early 18th century during the War of the Spanish Succession and rebuilt from 1712 under master builder Heinrich Hacker. Surviving medieval elements include the rock-cut moat, a stretch of the shield wall and two corner towers, one still topped by an early 20th-century crenellated extension, the other reduced to a low ruined stump bearing a modern pavilion. The Schloss today functions as a private residence with some rooms let out, so it is mainly seen from outside its grounds.
