Eresburg stands in Marsberg (Hochsauerlandkreis), in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.
The Eresburg stands on a plateau hill above the Diemel valley, in the Obermarsberg district of Marsberg. This fortified site was one of the main Saxon strongholds before its conquest by Charlemagne in 772 during the Saxon Wars. Tradition places the Irminsul, a pagan Saxon sanctuary destroyed on the Frankish king's orders, at or near this location. Today visitors can see the archaeological remains and the collegiate church of Obermarsberg, which still bears witness to the bloody events that took place here in the early Middle Ages.
