To make a day of it

Ephraim-Palais stands in Bezirk Mitte (Berlin), in Berlin, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Recorded dating: 18th century. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

The Ephraim-Palais stands on a street corner of the Nikolaiviertel, on the very spot once occupied by Berlin's oldest pharmacy. This 18th-century Rococo building takes its name from Veitel Heine Ephraim, a banker and court jeweller to Frederick II, who had it built in the 1760s. Demolished in 1935 to make way for Nazi urban planning, it was later rebuilt about twelve metres from its original site using the surviving facade elements. It now houses a museum devoted to Berlin's cultural history, part of the Stiftung Stadtmuseum Berlin.

  • The palace sits at the edge of the Nikolaiviertel, an easily walkable historic quarter in central Berlin.
  • The site functions as a museum of Berlin's cultural history rather than a palace preserved in its original state.
