The Burgstelle Wittgenstein marks the former site of a small medieval hill castle that no longer stands, set on a rocky spur rising thirty metres above the Erbstrom valley. What remains on the ground today is chiefly a broad, crescent-shaped moat along the western edge of the hill, the limestone outcrop having kept much of its natural shape. The spot now serves mainly as a viewpoint from the rock edge, looking out over the middle Erbstrom valley near Farnroda and Thal. Visitors come less for standing structures than for the setting and its history.
