Schloss Fischbach stands in the Fischbach district on the eastern edge of Eisenach, below the southern slope of the Petersberg. This half-timbered building was raised in the early 17th century for Duchess Christine, wife of Duke Johann Ernst, on the site of an older farmstead once tied to Eisenach's St Nicholas convent. The Hersfeld master builder Hans Weber gave it its present form: a stone ground floor topped by an elaborately decorated timber-framed storey, with an added stair tower and side wing. Beam ends on the courtyard side still carry the carved date 1624.
