To make a day of it
Burgruine Wurzstein stands in Warmensteinach (Landkreis Bayreuth), in Bavaria, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. No visits are on record for this building.
Perched on a rocky spur of the Fichtelgebirge south of Warmensteinach, the Burgruine Wurzstein preserves the remains of a medieval stronghold whose history is still largely a matter of conjecture, since no archaeological excavation has ever taken place there. Visitors can make out a neck ditch, the foundations of a probable keep, traces of a hall building, and the ruins of another structure at the site's highest point. The fortress may have watched over nearby mines worked for iron, silver and possibly gold, or served as a border post between the bishoprics of Bamberg and Regensburg.
