Burgruine Haltenberg stands in Scheuring (Landkreis Landsberg am Lech), in Bavaria, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

The Burgruine Haltenberg stands as a ruin on a rocky bluff above the Lech river, between Scheuring and Kaufering. It is today the only surviving castle ruin along the entire Lechrain stretch between Donauwörth and Füssen. Visitors can still see the Romanesque keep, remnants of the outer walls, and the double ditch system that once defended the medieval stronghold, later converted into an electoral hunting lodge.

What to know

  • The ruin is freely accessible and owned by the Landkreis Landsberg am Lech, which maintains it.
  • The Romanesque keep, about 18 metres high, can be climbed as a viewing tower after prior registration in Landsberg.
  • The view from the top of the keep is now largely obstructed by tall trees.
  • The adjacent outer bailey remains private property run as a working farm and is not open to visitors.
  • The site lies in open countryside with uneven ground and deep ditches, so sturdy footwear is advisable.
