To make a day of it

Burg Wendelsheim stands in Wendelsheim (Landkreis Tübingen), in Baden-Württemberg, Germany. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

Burg Wendelsheim refers to a former noble residence once located at Wendelsheim, now part of the town of Rottenburg am Neckar in the Landkreis Tübingen, Baden-Württemberg. Documented in local history until around 1600, the building itself no longer exists: its site has since been occupied by the village's parish church, rebuilt in neo-Gothic style in 1895. The church's choir, with wall paintings dated to around 1380-1400, and the lower part of its tower date back to the 13th and 14th centuries and remain the only tangible traces of this earlier seat. There is therefore no standing castle to visit today, only this historical layer embedded within the parish church.

What to know

  • No building of Burg Wendelsheim survives today, the site is now occupied by the village's parish church.
  • Only the choir, decorated with medieval wall paintings, and the lower part of the church tower date back to the time of the noble seat.
  • There are no opening hours, fees or visitor facilities tied to a castle as such, since the site is an active parish church.
  • The village of Wendelsheim is mainly visited for its natural surroundings, including the so-called Märchensee lake and a former quarry nearby.
