To make a day of it

Burg Trautenberg stands in Krummennaab (Landkreis Tirschenreuth), in Bavaria, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Recorded dating: 12th century. No visits are on record for this building.

The Burg Trautenberg stands in ruins on a hill 480 metres high above the village of Trautenberg, part of the municipality of Krummennaab. Built by the lords who bore its name, it ranks among the oldest known strongholds in southern Germany, alongside Burg Scheyern. Of the former triangular fortification only fragments of the shield wall remain, together with a deep rock-cut neck ditch and mounds of rubble marking where the buildings and the keep once stood. A schloss erected below the hill in 1608 continues the story of the site's noble owners.
