To make a day of it

Burg Tannegg stands in Boll (Landkreis Waldshut), in Baden-Württemberg, Germany. No visits are on record for this building.

Burg Tannegg, also known as Alt-Tannegg, marks the site of a former hilltop castle that no longer stands, set on a ridge about 1500 metres east of Boll, a district of Bonndorf im Schwarzwald. Built by the free lords of Tannegg, it later passed through several noble families before being sold in 1467 to the counts of Lupfen, by which time it had already been abandoned. No wall remains are visible today, and the site lies just across a small ravine from the neighbouring Burg Neu-Tannegg. Visitors mainly come for the forest walk and the sense of a vanished medieval past.

What to know

  • No standing walls remain here; the site is essentially a wooded hilltop location.
  • Reaching it means a walk through forest from Boll, with no visitor facilities on site.
  • There are no opening hours or admission fees, since there is no ticket office or staffed entrance.
  • The neighbouring Burg Neu-Tannegg lies just across a small ravine from this spot.
  • Sturdy walking shoes are advisable, as the terrain is a forested ridge in the Black Forest.
