To make a day of it

Burg Rietberg stands in Rietberg (Kreis Gütersloh), in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. No visits are on record for this building.

The Burg Rietberg has long since vanished: it was a lowland stronghold raised in a marshy bend of the Ems river, the seat first of the counts of Werl-Arnsberg and later of the counts of Rietberg. Its site was eventually taken over by a Franciscan friary, and it should not be confused with the Schloss Rietberg, built elsewhere in the 14th century as its successor. Nothing remains today of the original structure, likely an earthen motte enclosed by walls and ditches.
