The Wasserschloss Tatenhausen stands in the Tatenhausen forest near Halle, surrounded by a moat fed by the Laibach stream. For more than four centuries it served as the seat of the von Korff genannt Schmising family, before passing by inheritance to the barons Teuffel von Birkensee, its present owners. The buildings combine Weser Renaissance work from the 16th century, with its stepped gables, and Baroque additions from the early 18th century, including an orangery designed by the architect Johann Conrad Schlaun. The estate also keeps traces of a 19th century spa built around mineral springs discovered there.
