To make a day of it

Burg Nordenberg stands in Windelsbach (Landkreis Ansbach), in Bavaria, Germany. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

Burg Nordenberg was a hilltop fortification, now vanished, that once stood at 490 metres above sea level near the hamlet of Nordenberg, part of the municipality of Windelsbach. From the mid 12th century until 1383 it served as the seat of the lords of Nordenberg, who held the imperial office of Reich kitchen master based in Rothenburg. What survives today is an archaeological site: ditches and ramparts are still visible in the terrain, along with scattered stone fragments of a 13th-century keep that was blown up in the early 15th century. One striking remnant is a section of wall that was tipped upright by the blast and remains lodged in the ground.
