Burg Lindau stands in ruins on a sandy spur overlooking the Nuthe river, near the town of Lindau in Saxony-Anhalt. Likely founded between the ninth and tenth centuries on what was once marshland, it is first documented in 1179 under a certain Evererus of Lindau. Visitors can still make out a round keep with walls over two metres thick, a double entrance gate, and traces of the wall that once separated the upper bailey from the outer one. The site retains the outline typical of a motte, despite fifteenth century alterations and a restoration of the keep carried out in 1863 under Duke Leopold Friedrich.
