To make a day of it

Burg Kretier is a vanished high medieval motte site located two kilometers northwest of Raesfeld, along the Bekke stream. No historical records mention this fortification; everything known about it comes from archaeological excavation. Dendrochronological analysis dated its gate structure to 1117, while a charred tree trunk found on site points to abandonment around 1152. Only the southern portion of the complex survives today, consisting of earthworks and ditches, since the motte mound itself was leveled around 1880.
