Burg Geroldstein is a medieval ruin perched on a steep rocky spur above the Wisper valley in the Hessian Rheingaugebirge. Built in the late 12th century, likely commissioned by the Counts of Katzenelnbogen, it was the first seat of the von Geroldstein family before they built the larger Burg Haneck nearby. What remains today are sections of rubble-stone walls, a seven-sided keep built into the ring wall, and a narrow gateway set into a shield wall about two and a half metres thick. The site can only be seen from the outside.
