Burg Fischhausen stands in open countryside between Hooksiel and Horumersiel, within the municipality of Wangerland. Its origins go back to the early fifteenth century, when a member of the local chieftain family named von Fischhausen built the first stronghold on the moated site. The present main building, with its octagonal stair tower, dates from the late sixteenth century, the period of the estate's greatest expansion. In private ownership since the eighteenth century, the site still shows a double moat system that clearly traces the outline of the former fortified manor.
