Burg Falkenstein stands in Falkenstein/Vogtl., in the Vogtlandkreis, Saxony, on the site of an older stronghold first recorded in 1354 as the Veste Valkenstein. At that time it belonged to the brothers von Valkenstein, who declared it an open house before the Bohemian king Charles IV, the lord of Elsterberg and the margrave of Meissen. From 1400 onward the lordship passed to Hans von Troczeler, forefather of the von Trützschler family, who made it their ancestral seat known as the Falkensteiner Schloss.
